Studies have shown that obese people are more likely to die early as people of normal weight, according to the New England Journal of Medicine. People who weigh 20 percent more than normal are deemed obese, reducing your weight by just 5 to 10 percent can reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. A disciplined obese person can lose weight permanently with dietary changes and increased physical activity.
Here are 5 Methods to cure Obesity
· Reduce the number of calories you eat and eat healthier foods.
· Don't restrict calories severely. Experts recommend losing 0.75 to 1.5 Kg per week. People who try crash diets usually gain the weight back. Also, avoid fad diets. You need a diet you can maintain for life.
· Review with your health-care provider how many calories you take in. Doctors typically recommend restricting diets to between 1,000 and 1,600 calories per day, depending on your size and activity level.
· Cut out sweets, fats and processed foods, which have a lot of calories in small volumes of food. Replace fattening foods and reduce hunger pangs with fruits and vegetables high in volume, but low in calories.
· Base your diet on foods derived from plants, including beans, lentils, peas, whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables.
· Eat lean meats like chicken, turkey and fish.
· Eat low-fat dairy products.
· Reduce fat intake. Fats should come from healthy sources such as nuts, nut oil and olive and canola oil.
2: Physical Activity
· Speak to your doctor/ Fitness Counsellor about exercise. Obese people may need up to 300 minutes per week of moderate-intensity exercise to lose significant weight. That equates to an hour of exercise 5 days per week.
· If you are not exercising, talk to your doctor or a fitness Counsellor about how much exercise you should do. Gradually increase the intensity and duration until you reach 250 to 300 minutes per week.
· If you can't get an hour of exercise at one time, break up your exercise into several sessions per day.
· If you walk to get exercise, walk at a brisk pace to increase your heart rate and burn more calories.
· Add activity to your routine. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park farther away from store entrances. Get up and move around frequently. Work in the garden and do household chores more frequently.
Make sure you take advice from doctors or certified fitness counsellors and always try to follow fitness training modules instead of body building & weight lifting modules. Keep changing your fitness modules time to time.
3: Behaviour Modifications
Start therapy sessions. Therapists can work with you on behavioral and emotional issues that relate to eating. A therapist can teach you to cope with food cravings and anxiety that may lead to overeating.
Consider joining a support group to meet others who are overweight. You may also meet people who've had success with losing weight.
Avoid sitting with demotivated people and specially to those who are against with the exercises.
4: Non-Surgical Techniques + Medication
a). Lipo Laser
LipoLaser was designed to specifically address spot fat reduction (or inch loss) and body contouring. Administered in relaxing 30 minute sessions, the LipoLaser provides inch loss, but without the surgery, the pain, or the extensive recovery time. By directly targeting adipose cells (or fat cells) the LipoLaser offers a safe and effective spot fat reduction solution that can be applied to multiple problem areas including.
The LipoLaser is the ideal treatment for all body types. It works synergistically with the body’s natural weight loss mechanisms. It specifically targets troublesome areas to remove inches.
Ultrasound imagery shows up to 30% reduction in the fat layer depth after just one treatment. Additional treatments improve results further. Results can be seen immediately after each treatment as the fat cell contents are released. Light exercise post treatment can accelerate the removal of the released fat.
Lipo Laser uses low levels of visible red laser light to create a safe and painless bio-stimulation effect in the targeted fat tissue. This stimulation is of the normal chemical pathways which the body uses to free up energy resources when required, so Lipo Laser does not produce any abnormal effects in the body or damage body tissue such as cells, blood vessels or neighbouring nerves or vital organs. The treatment can be performed on all skin types and body areas where unwanted fat is stored and you can return to normal activity immediately after treatment.
Results can be seen immediately after treatment. Typically a 2-4cm loss in abdomen circumference can be achieved with every treatment. A course of 8 treatments is recommended over 4 weeks with 2 treatments per week. Healthy diet and exercise are required to maintain the effects of the treatment, and this treatment can be the perfect partner to Fat Freeze Cryo treatments.
b). Cry lipolysis
Cry lipolysis is a medical treatment used to destroy fat cells. Its principle relies on controlled cooling to near sub-zero temperatures for non-invasive localized reduction of fat deposits in order to reshape body contours. The exposure to cooling is set so that it causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without apparent damage to the overlying skin. The procedure is billed as a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction. Generically the process can also be known as "Fat Freezing".
In September 2010, the Food and Drug Administration approved the cry lipolysis procedure. Zeltiq Aesthetics of Pleasanton, California, which developed this cry lipolysis device was founded by Scott Wolf, with funding from venture capital companies including Advanced Technology Ventures, Frazier Healthcare Ventures,Venrock and Aisling Capital. It has been approved to cool skin for pain reduction in selected applications and is used off-label for cry lipolysis.
Ultrasonic body contouring treatments, such as the Ultra Shape device, use targeted ultrasound frequencies to break down fat, particularly on the abdomen, hips, thighs and ‘love handles'. The best candidates are close to their ideal weight but have stubborn areas of localised fatty deposits that do not respond to changes in diet and exercise.
The focused ultrasound waves are delivered in short bursts of energy, or pulses, to destroy fat cells while leaving surrounding tissue, nerves and blood vessels unaffected, as well as protecting the outside layers of the skin.
Each pulse breaks down the membranes of the targeted fat cells so that a layer of fatty tissue beneath the skin is eventually disrupted. The contents of the fat cells, called triglycerides, are then dispersed and processed through the bodies vascular and lymphatic systems and eliminated naturally.
d). Advanced Technology(Available in all Neo Centres)
This Technology incorporates LipoLaser and adopts and combines with RF and 3 photons (red, green, and blue) to generate heat. It can penetrate the skin to a depth of 15mm by mechanical movement, which is far more than the depth of the other devices currently on the market.
While the heat is conducted, the mechanical movement is carried out simultaneously and so is the fat and cellulite. In this way, it makes the skin more flexible and reduces the fat quickly. It can improve the figure and the skin surface.
Note: All these treatments are available at all NEO centres, these treatments required medication, diet and proper exercise to get best results.
Over the years, Bariatric Surgery (Weight-loss Surgery) has evolved, today, studies confirm that Bariatric Surgery is an effective weight-loss treatment after all other methods to lose weight have been exhausted.
The advancement of science and technology has worked to the benefit of bariatric surgeons and their patients, in terms of the number of options to choose from with different techniques to achieve weight-loss. These techniques may be classified into the following:
Restrictive: Adjustable gastric band, vertical-banded gastroplasty and sleeve gastrectomy are some of the purely restrictive procedures. They help people with obesity by restricting the caloric intake.
Predominantly malabsorptive with a restrictive component: Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion (BPD) with or without duodenal switch (DS) operation is predominantly malabsorptive which has a small restrictive component.
Predominantly restrictive with a malabsorptive component: Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGBP) is mainly restrictive as it creates a small gastric pouch as well as a changing degree of malabsorption.
Some of the bariatric surgical procedures are:
a). Gastric Bypass
Gastric Bypass, which is a combination of restrictive and malabsorptive surgery techniques. This is the most frequently performed bariatric procedure in patients with high-risk obesity across the world. In this procedure, a small stomach pouch helps with caloric restriction is created by means of stapling. The remaining stomach is not removed but is completely stapled, shut and divided from the lower stomach pouch. The outlet from this newly formed pouch empties into the lower portion of the jejunum, thus bypassing calorie absorption and the duodenum. To this end, the small intestine is divided beyond the duodenum and a connection with the new, smaller stomach pouch is constructed. The length of either segment of the intestine determines the level of malabsorption.
b). Sleeve Gastrectomy
This is a purely restrictive procedure which helps with limiting the amount of food you can eat by reducing the size of your stomach. During this procedure, a thin vertical sleeve of the stomach, typically about the size of a banana, is created using a stapling device. The procedure ends with removal of the excised portion of the stomach.
This is how it helps you lose weight - As you decrease your food intake, your body will stop storing excess calories and start using its fat supply as the source of energy. This procedure also reduces secretion of ghrelin (the hormone that stimulates hunger) due to the removed portion of stomach which in turn reduces appetite.
Here is how the procedure can benefit you -
Food passes through the digestive tract in the usual order. This allows vitamins and nutrients to be fully absorbed into the body
After the surgery, the patient does not require multiple follow-ups with the bariatric surgeon
Studies have shown that this procedure helps with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, High Blood Pressure and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, and also reduces High Cholesterol and gives better results as compared to Gastric Banding
c). Gastric Banding
Gastric Banding is a purely restrictive procedure because it limits the amount of food you can eat and thereby reducing the calorie count. This procedure involves placing a band around the stomach, dividing it into a small upper pouch and a lower stomach.
How it helps you lose weight - The gastric band limits the amount of food that can be eaten at one time due to the small upper pouch. This helps you feel fuller sooner and stay full longer. As you eat less food, your body will stop accumulating excess calories and start using its fat energy supply.
Here is how this procedure can benefit you:
The surgery is reversible
In this procedure, neither the stomach nor the digestive system is stapled, cut, or removed. Food passes through the digestive tract in the usual order in the digestive process, allowing it to be fully absorbed into the body
Gastric Banding can help with resolving conditions including Type 2 Diabetes, High Cholesterol (LDL) and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Whether you need ia Gastric Banding is determined by Your Band Adjustment Schedule - Your weight, the physical symptoms and you report. The timing and number of band adjustments are different for everyone and can only be determined by each patient’s surgeon.
Note: NEO Fitnes does not perform any surgical treatment at their centres.
